Korean Style Makeup

You can call me a minimalist. Although I do love adding complexity to my outfits, I am not a big fan of wearing a faceload of makeup. Typically, I wear no make up because I am so low maintenance when it comes to beauty. However, occasionally I break out some of my makeup if I feel like prettying myself up a little more.

Korean style makeup is one of my favorite styles for a really long time. I find that their makeup suits my minimalist style. Less is more. Some of the things in American makeup are things that I don't relate to in my facial features like chiseled cheek bones or a tall nose. I can't work a bronzing tan. But I can work an aegyo sal.

Today I'm going to show you how to create a blushing look that is super cute. Let's get started.

Step 1. Start off with a CC cream. CC creams are for correcting color. If you have any redness, this is the kind of stuff that you would probably want to use for your face. I love the light to medium coverage and it makes my skin still feel like it's my skin! I'm using Stila CC cream which starts off green but becomes your shade after working it into the skin.

Step 2. Eyebrows are the frame to your face. Pluck them or fill them in to get a shape that will make your eyes larger. I don't need to fill in my eyebrows because they aren't sparse, but shade them in with an eyebrow gel or powder if needed.

Step 3. Take an angled face brush and load it up with some bright pink blush. Make sure to tap off the excess. Apply it to the high points of your cheekbones. You want a concentrated pink color for that blushing flush.

Step 4. The eyes. Take a matte light pink color as the base of your eyelid. This will cover up any redness and veins you may have on your eyelids. Taking a crease brush, sweep a mauve color onto your crease. This adds dimension to your eyes and makes them appear bigger.

Step 5. Highlighting is key when it comes to this look. Korean style typically requires that dewey glow so you want to make sure your eyes achieve that glow. Pack in some shimmery champagne colored eyeshadow onto the middle of the eyelid. Take a brush and place the shimmery champagne color in the inner corner of your eyes and sweep it onto your lower lash line. This will open up your eyes which will make you look awake and youthful. The lower lashline highlight is absolutely essential to create what the Koreans call aegyo sal. Aegyo sal is small undereye bags that follow the bottom of your lashline. You can fake an aegyo sal with some highlighting and contouring under the lashline. I have a slight aegyo sal already so I just highlighted my lower lashline.

Step 6. Line the eyes with a small wing. I like using a gel eyeliner because I find that I have more precision with my angled liner brush. Do not make a cat eye. A small wing is cute and opens up the eyes. We want to make sure the eyes are cute, not sultry.

Step 7. Curl those lashes. You want them to look perky and pretty. Apply a light coat of mascara if needed. I don't really like mascara so I decided to stray away from that in this look. The more natural, the better.

Step 8. The classic popsicle lip. Shading is key to adding dimension to your lips. Concentrate a bright pink color in the middle and inside of the lip. Blend it out into your natural lip color. Then, top it off with some lip gloss.

Those are my tips to achieving korean-style makeup The look is finished! I hope you guys try it out. Let me know if you would like more tutorials similar to this.
